My name, what document overrides every other document?

My first name is two words: XXX YYY.

No middle name.

That's the case for Birth cert, Passport.

But on my I-20 (expired), social security card, driver's license, it's all XXXYYY with no space.

If I prefer XXXYYY, should I put that in the forms first, or better to stay with XXX YYY?

I'm scared they are going to mistake YYY to be my middle name or something.

I'm applying for green card through marriage to US citizen.

I've been using XXXYYY for 10 years in the USA.

The birth certificate is considered the "gold standard" by USCIS, unless there is something else specifically overriding it like a name change court order.

However, they tend not to be so stringent with it at the green card stage. If you prefer XXXYYY, write your name on the forms like that, and they will likely create the green card with XXXYYY especially since that's how all your other documents are (except the BC, of course).

Legal name changes are incorporated to the citizenship process for those who want a name change, so when you apply for citzenship you can ask them to officially change your name to XXXYYY. Or once you get the green card, you can go to a court and have the name change done to XXXYYY.
