Hello everybody, I just landed here, so please excuse myself for being kinda n00by
My question is as following, I live in the States more than 5 years and in April 2009, I was granted asylum through my wife's religion case and next year we must fill the application for the Green Card. I was just wondering can I join US Military(even a civil position) while waiting the date and do I have chances getting the job with my current status. Thank you.

You have to be a Permanent Resident or U.S Citizen in order to join U.S Armed Forces

Do you speak Pashtu or Urdu? If you do you can leave your phone number or e-mail in my Private Messages. Me or recruiter will contact you shortly.

Hello Uncle Joe, unfortunately I don't speak the languages you mentioned but I am a bit sad finding out the very first answer of my post. I saw in Craigslist an ad that you can take review at Google Doc. Just go Google Document official website and add after dot com/ this View?id=ddv3kg7p_84kpq9pfc2. Thank you.

Great tips, Raziel. Now, I'm wondering in my case what's my status then? I reviewed the 3rd link you sent me and I thinking which one I actually belong to - Lawful Permanent Resident(LPR) or Legal Alien(not LPR). Thanks once again.

Is there anything else I should be aware of before I submit that form, please! I'm also interesting finding out how I can enroll studying though MAVNI and do I have to be proficient in English for that?

just check the requirements of MAVNI, one of the requiremenet that you have a medical background or 2nd language skill

studying though MAVNI ? I don't know about that

All I meant by saying studying is start a college program or courses that have been sponsored by MAVNI. But, that's fine I'll try to apply now. And yes, I know almost perfectly Russian language hope this will bring some positive results.Thank you for your time and patience!

well.. even if there was no study progrma sponsered, you will become a citizen, so I advice you to apply.

I applied too but I guess I was denied since I didn't get a reply maybe because I have been for 10 months only in USA.

as for the proficiency in English, they will not ask for a 100% English speaker : )

your English looks good

I am here since 2004 but most of the time unsure applying it. Now, I got my asylum status so I'll give a try. The thing is that I don't wanna go to the war field :( And this kinda confusing me because most of the jobs they offer are in Afghanistan and Iraq. I just reviewed their Cargo Specialist or something similar. Any tips on that, please!

In order to Apply for MAVNI you have to be proficient in following languages
Pashtu
Dari
Urdu
Arabic

or be a qualified medic or nurse.

spent 2 years in US legally, Student visa Asylum, etc,

all other languages you'll find on the Army web site are not priority. It's a very small chance to get there with Russian.

would you share how you reviewed the Cargo Specialist , link?

as for going to "war", it will be a personal point of view.. you won't get the citizenship for "free"

still, there is a chance... if he got denied, he can wait for the GC

Yes, and if he wanna give a shot, he better hurry up, MAVNI is a pilot program, as far as i know it ends in December.

And one more thing, Military isn't civilian live. it's a tough job, especially when you deployed you will work up to 18 hours a day may be more. But you will be appreciated. When you will join it will be hard for you for the first time, then you'll be allright!
Good Luck to you, hope you pass! Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer you.

Well, once I submitted the form I decided to check some of the positions. So once you got goarmy dot com just add this JobDetail.do?id=142 after the slash.

just for the record, I have 2 years Counterintelligence Combat experience from my country, so I really hope this will help me out waking up at 3AM ;)

Anyways. Thanks to you, Uncle Joe and Raziel for your great tips. Any other useful information will be greatly appreciated! Cheers
