My London Interview Experience- Further Administrative Process

Our interview was scheduled for 8.00a.m. We got there around 7.00a.m . We were checked in around 7:30a.m. We collected our ticket and we were asked to take a sit up-stair where we sat in a big hall and await our number (5xxx) to be called.

Within 20-30 mins, our number was announced and we were asked to go to window 1 where we met a lady (looked as if she was a chinese descendant). She requested for our documents accordingly (both originals and photocopies), including our passports. She looked through our passports and asked us to re-write our middle and first names on the DS Forms, just exactly as they appeared on our passports. She took our finger prints and went to search for our medical reports. She came back later with a large envilope that contained our Xrays and told us to hand it over at the point of entry.

The lady directed us to window 12 where we made our Visa Fee payments. We paid the fees in US Dollars ($) instead of GB Pounds (£) which we had earlier converted to Dollars before the interview date. Although, we had discussed the conversion issues on this forum prior to the interview date but it seems as if the conversion rate in the embassy (£1,630.60 to $3,100 [for 4 people]) was better than that of the Bureau-de-Change (£1,652.45 to $3,100 [for 4 people]). After the payments, we came back with 2 copies of the receipt. We gave her a copy and kept the other copy for our record. Thereafter, she asked us to take our seats and wait for our number to be called for the interview.

Some moments later, our number was called to window 15 where we met an American Lady who greeted us and re-took our finger prints. She went through our documents and asked me to tell her about myself. I began by introducing myself, my Education, Career and Marriage. In the long run, she brought out a blue form and told me that she would need to confirm my results and that we also need to send in another Police Certificates from our country of origin. We asked her if anything was wrong with the one we presented, she said we should have done the finger prints from the Scotland-yard Police or our Local Police before sending them to our country of origin for final verifications. We took an oath, she gave us the blue form and returned our passports. She said they will contact us as soon as the further administrative processes are concluded. She also emphasized that we must send in the Police Certificates as soon as possible in order to benefit from the DV Visa programme before its expiration on September 30th, 2008.

Fingers across! Please, pray along with us.:D

Which country are you from? I may have a similar issue as I got my police clearence report without any fingure printing done in UK.

Also how long have you been in UK?

From Nigeria and we've been here for over four years. We argued that it was not written in the letter sent to us (that we must do the finger printing from the Scotland-yard or our local police before sending them to our country of origin for verification). The consular officer said she was sorry but that was the requirement. You may need to contact them for further clarification because I think this may be applicable to any country, not only Nigeria.

I'm baffled! This question may sound stupid but how did they know you have not done your finger prints for the Nigerian Police certificates? Did they ask you? Did you take a UK Police certificate? I was put on administrative processing because they said they want to verify my birth certificate (certified copy)with the authorities in my country. I don't know how soon they will complete that verification. I wish you luck and hope your case will be expedited before Sept. 30th.

We did the required UK Police Certificates from ACRO without any finger-printing.

In case of the Nigeria Police Certificates, we were required to do the finger-printing on a specific form that bears the Nigeria Police Logo which were sent to us directly by the Nigeria Police through the DHL. We did the finger-printing and then sent the forms back to Nigeria for final processing.

The Consular Officer did not ask if the finger-printing were done directly from Nigeria or through the Scotland-yard (or the Local Police) but since the attached finger-printed forms borne only the Nigeria Police Logo she said we should have obtained similar finger-print forms from the Scotland-yard (or the Local Police) and then made the finger printing in their presence before sending those forms down to Nigeria for counter-signing.

Nigeria Police Report

I think I have found the root of your problem, the following is text on how to obtain Nigerian Police clearence from overseas.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciprocity/reciprocity_3640.html

Nigeria Reciprocity Schedule

Police Records

Available, including for those living abroad. The Nigerian police force no longer accepts requests made through the American Embassy. Requests should be addressed to The Deputy Inspector General, Criminal Investigation Department, Nigerian Police Force, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria. Fee should be in the form of an international bank draft payable to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Fingerprint Section, Nigerian Police Force.

The applicant's letter must state full name, place and date of birth, nationality, passport number, date and place of issuance (for current passport or passport used during applicant's stay in Nigeria), exact periods of residence in Nigeria and addresses where applicant resided. Each applicant 16 years of age and over must enclose (1) a copy of the first three data pages of his or her passport, (2) the pages containing Nigerian visas, entry and departure stamps and (3) a complete set of fingerprints taken by the police in the district where the applicant resides.

So this may be a specific Nigerian problem and not necessarily applicable to all countries as the same requirements are not posted for other countries.

Hope it comes right for all of us in the end.

Thanks for the explanation guys. Davo, I pray that our administrative processing will soon be cleared and we are issued the visas before Sept 30th. :)

Hi Macon,

I just want to know if that your friend (the one the consular officer asked to verify her WAEC Result) has been called upon by the Embassy, or is she still waiting for the Verification?

Thanks

She's still waiting for the verification! You can call her. Check your email.

Pending Admin Processing

Davo,
Are you there??? Have you submitted the Police Certificate to the Embassy? I called them last week to enquire about my Admin Processing and I was told it can take up to a month to complete
Meanwhile, I'm still waiting and praying. Let's keep the faith. It's not over until it's over :)

how did you obtain your police clearance from country of origin ?

Regarding the police clearance fron Nigeria, did you have to travel personally to Nigeria to get it done or did you send someone to obtain it for you ?If it's the latter then you were required to obtain a finger print done at Scotland Yard.If you are from Ghana or Nigeria, any Police Certificate obtained without a finger print of some sort is deemed invalid. It's a shame that some of this information is not published for us to understand it clearly:( .The 2NL which they send out before the interview doesn't say anything about this but it looks like we have to do most of the research ourselves:confused:.I believe that is why this forum has been so helpful to people like me.Every detailed information that i needed has come from this forum.
Thanks to all.

In respect to the Police Certificates, we have obtained another set of finger-prints from our Local Police Station and sent them to Nigeria Police for verification. The Police Certificates have been sent back to us and we have, in deed, sent them to the Embassy last tuesday, awaiting their calls. Fingers across! Thanks.

Let's keep the faith, bro. I believe this waiting period will be over soon and we'll get our visas. :D

London Interview Experience

We had our interview yesterday at the London Embassy. It was pretty straight forward .The lady was very nice and polite.Everything was fine but my wife who is the main applicant was told to get her transcript for her 1st Dergree before they will issue the Visa:eek:.We 've called the University Student services and they told us to pick up the transcript on Monday:).I will follow up with full update when the courier service return the passports and the big brown envelopes.I must say however that the exchange rate at the Embassy is a killer.... the 4 of us paid nearly £1800:eek:.Good luck to all of you.

Congratulation abeku66. Everything will be OK by the Grace of God. But why should they ask for a transcript of a first degree when O' Levels or SSS certificate is enough to deal with the educational requirement? I know people who used O levels and SSS certificates to get through. This is one of the unnecessary things - I undersatnd they still have large amount of visas for the 2008 DV season and certainly want to give it out to winners, so "alarm for no cause".

Macon and others just beign curious. Am from Cameroon but in he UK at the moment. I have also been called up for the interview and don't know if we are required to do the finger printing on police certificates.

To Abeku66, did your wife indicate that she has a BA orrr, bcos i also indicated n was supposed to be through by end month but am not through with my thesis which might take me longer than the anticipated date.

Anything u can do to help...waiting

Yes, my wife indicated that she has a BA Degree and indeed submitted the original certificate including that of her A and O Level and also had massive job experience, yet they required Transcript for her Undergrad Degree. It sounds unusual but not strange. It all depends on who you meet on the day of your interview. In your case be advised to obtain all your transcripts if possible.Since you haven't completed your degree yet, you are better off submitting certificates and Transcripts for your highest accademic qualification.Above all be prepared for anything!!!

I'm not sure whether Cameroonians are required to do finger printing for a police certificate. You can check the link below or call the embassy and ask. Make sure you obtain a UK Police Certificate though. Please heed to Abeku66's advice regarding documents preparation. If you have transcripts, take them with you. Good Luck!:)
