My scheduled interview was on the morning of Aug. 10, 2010 at 7:20am
I left my house at 6:00am even though the distance to San Bernardino DO was only 30mins away through freeway. Giving myself some extra time to fight off morning traffic, as I was near the DO a 18 wheeler had overturned on the highway. I was really glad I left early through stop and go traffic due to the accident and arrived at the DO roughly 6:50.
I went alone, even though I filed under the 3yr. rule, was too early and my wife didn't want to get up since it wasn't required for her to attend. Walked in and check-in, name was called on time at around 7:20 and was greeted by an Hispanic IO.
The IO asked me to raise my right hand and asked me to swear to tell the truth. Then requested for my drivers license, passport, and my wife's birth certificate (filing under 3 yr rule). Went directly into my application and asked me all the yes/no questions on the application, then paused at the selective service section which I check NO (I didn't register between the age of 18-26) I was still under student visa at the time. I had requested a letter of exemption from selective service but it never arrived on time nor did I explain to the IO I had requested it (thinking he might ask me to return at later date with the letter). He checked his files and then stood up and went to ask his supervisor, came back told me he just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any future problems.
He then asked me to read: "Which state has the most people?"
Then asked me to write: "State of California has the most people"
Civics questions:
1) What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?
2) Who is in charge of the executive branch?
3) If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?
4) How old do citizens have to be to vote for President?
5) During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?
6) We elect a president for how many years?
Then asked me to sign a piece of paper. Asked me for 2 supporting documents evidence showing I'm still married to my wife. I asked him any document? Since I brought like a whole suitcase full of our bills and such. He said just pick 2, so I handed him my bank statements. He didn't even look at it just hole punch and put it in my file. Said congratulations, your application has been recommended for for approval.
I have to say, while he was looking through my N-400 and asking me the questions, he would randomly ask my birthday or if I'm still married. He did this quite a few time repeatedly. Other than that it went pretty smooth, in and out roughly 20 mins or less with the IO. He instructed me that I will receive a letter for Oath Ceremony date between 30-90 days.
Went home and went to bed since I took the day off from work already.
Good luck to the rest of you if your still waiting for an interview, bring everything you could possibly have which is sticky in this forum for naturalization interview. You never know what they could ask from you. In my case, I was very fortunate not to be asked for anything more than the basics/usual documentation.
