Hi all,

I had my interview at INS today. All went well, except she gave me a sheet of paper that "you have passed english and civic tests... but your application cannot be approved now" .She said Homeland Security has to check with other agencies and then they will send me a letter for oath.

Based on those with similar experience, How long am in for waiting now?

Any ideas or estimates?

Thanks

I had my interview three weeks ago. The CIS gave me a form with two intems checked. You passed history exam.... The second item checked was "Congratulations you have been recommended for approval" The CIS didn't say anything about name check or back ground check. I am waiting for Oath Ceremony now. There could be delays if they are going to do your background checks. By the way do you have a muslim sounding name?

In fact, even though from middle east my name is not muslim- sounding. I think she was wondering and asked twice about in the interview was that how come I was not married. I have two jobs. She asked "so you just keep working? ...no wife? no children?"

your location and PD

Hi Eric711,

What is your location and PD? How long after your fingerprinting did you get your interview notification?

Thanks!

I feel people from certain countries are under more scrutiny. I think they complete all checks before interview. But still if they have any doubts at the time of interview, they initiate a checks again.

Location --> Milwaukee
My interview was 4 and half months after the fingerprinting

The security check is fine as long as they really do that and not just keep delaying ...

Can you give complete details of interview?
How nice/rude are the INS folks at MKE?
Also is there a parking problem there at INS office?
Was there a long or very long line?
Is there a waiting after you went in?
Etc etc.

Here's the detail:

I got there early . My appointment was at 10. Parking spots are tough to find around there. I parked 3 blocks away.
I waited out of the interview room till around 11AM before I was called in. The officer was not rude. She called me in to her office. Asked me to raise my hand and swear to tell the truth, etc ...
Then she asked for my passport, GC, and driver's licence. Then she went through all the questions in the Application and told me to sign on the dotted line. At the end I asked her about traffic tickets. She said traffic tickets should be entered in the application. Then we enterd the traffic tickets in the application and I gave her the letters from courts that the tickets were resolved.

She asked me if I had filed my taxes on time every year and whether I owed anything. She did not ask for copy of Tax returns from me. But someone else was asked to mail a copy of her tax returns to the INS office after the interview, even though the applicant was a wife of a citizen and the tax return was filed as joint.

She asked me about my trips out of country. The test was very easy. 10 multiple-choice questins. All from the 100 sample questions. I could have answered all of them without even reading those sample questions.

At the end she showed me a public notice from Dec 2002 that said "due to security procedures some N400 and I485 applications will go through security checks, sorry for any inconvenience..."

She told me Homeland Security has to check with other agencies before the final approval, then said "let me check if your security check has been cleared". she checked in her computer and said "not yet". She said they set the applications aside and check the security checks every month to see if they are cleared.

She gave me a letter saying "You have passed English and history and civics test but your application cannot be approved now ....." and said they would send me the oath letter when the security check clears.

That's it

Hi Eric,

It seems like only some N-400 applications go through more security checks. I had my interview few weeks back, the CIS didn't mention anything about name checks or security checks. She gave me a form saying she recommended me for approval.

I guess a lot of factors are involved from the officer to the INS location to nationalities and marital status and ...
