My finger print experiance

Me and my wife got appointment at 9:00 AM and both of my kids are having appointment at 10:00 AM.

By 8:25 AM, we all there in Pomona ASC. The receptionist greeted us and verified our Identities. He preferred driving license over Passport as that is very easy to verify. In passport, he has to look for visa for an identification. All our visas got expired and all he cared about a Visa number.

We all given some token number and a paper to fill in. Its pretty straight forward. They even ready to proceed for finger printing but we took a little time to fill up all the forms. We filled up forms and went to receptionist again and then seated for our turn. There are 3 machines.

Within moments, I got my turn. Given water to clean my hands. She took finger prints of all the fingers except the thumb at one shot. Repeated for other hand. Then, she started taking finger prints for each finger. Entire curvature of the finger need to be captured. So, start from left she rolls the finger to the right. We all can see the finger prints coming up on the screen in front of us. She observed about continuity and cracks and uniform color. Many of my fingers took several attempts. She applied some white paste (oil??) to my fingers to get a better print. For 2 or so fingers, it looks like she compromised. Already concern started. Then she verified all the prints she took. Asked me to sign on an electronic device which captures my sign. Then, photograph. This all took more than 15 minutes for me, because of repetitions.

Mean while, my wife and kids completed and all waiting for me. For the kids its code 2, they just took finger print for their right index, signature and photo.
We asked to fill up a survey. I rated excellent.

By 9:05 AM, we are done with it.

My wife started complaining for not using cold cream :). I always run away from using any kind of cosmotics/creams except odomos (mosquito repellent
:)) while in India. She said there are cracks due to dryness.

FunLover, thanks for details on your finger printing experience, this will come in handy for a lot of folks.

On another note, is a finger printing appointment expected for all I-485 filers, or are they sent only for those whose priority date is current? I was able to file for my I-140/I-485 concurrently just before retrogression set in on Aug 17. Should I be expecting a FP notice in the next few months?

Thanks for any info.

Thanks for a detailed description of your appointment. I sure loved reading the whole saga.

BTW, how many times does one have to do FP? I have seen quite a few applicants whose profiles have FP1, FP2. Does it mean 2 FPs?

I believe every one should get it irrespective of PDs. Without FP, the application would not progress for name check/security check.

AIK, FP is valid for only 15 (or 12?) months. And will be repeated every 15 months until one gets his GC (or one clears his security?).
