Hello,
Here is what happened:
On May 17th (approximate), my husband received a letter that he won the lottery (should I mention that I was the one pushing him to play every year?!). We were EU2005009***.
Anyway, he won (and I lost, well, not completely though ). Because we had each other on the application, I was also eligible to receive the green card.
So we received the letter on May 17th and on May 19th, we were sending our filled forms via an express letter to the KY Consular center (no need for the express though, regular would have been enough...).
On September 1st, we get another letter with our interview date for the first week of October. (We had choosen consular processing after I research on the internet and found out that AOS process was extremely slow and unreliable compare to the Consular Processing which extremely fast.).
So we went back home for the interview. First, we went to see the doctor, got our xRays. Then we went to the Embassy and the shock... I forgot one of the police reports for some time I spend in another EU country. (So FYI, you need a police report for any period of time, greater than 6 months, that you spent abroad, even if it is the country next door...) I tried to explain to the vice consul that with the EU now, I should not need a police report for every country I have been in. But he said that this is security related and he has to have this police report.
Very disappointed, we go home and order this police report. The consulate gave us a letter allowing us to come back anytime we wanted to the consulate.
So, as we were going back home for Christmas (we were in the US under an H1b), we took this opportunity to go back to the US consulate. We brought the police report, the officer looked at it 5 seconds and said it was good. She took our fingerprint and the same day, we left the consulate with our stamps in our passeport. This was on the 3rd week of December. We went back to the US few days after Christmas.
And yesterday, I received the actual plastic card (about 3 weeks after we came back).
Needless to say, it was ultra fast compare the the work related green card, consulate people were ultra nice with us and very understanding when we figured we were missing a document.
Let me know if you have question!
And good luck for anyone in the process!
Tucxie
PS: You should not need a lawyer if your case is straight forward like mine was. Also, I would so strongly recommend consular processing to Adjustment of status if you can afford a ticket to go home.

Proof of support

Hello,
My husband and myself were already holding a job in the US (under an H1B visa) so we did not have any issue to prove that we could support ourselves. I think in the documentation, they are telling exactly what you have to bring. I think you need a letter from the manager of your bank branch testifying that you have the money in your account and he has to provide you with a letter of all the movement of money in and out of your account for the last year or so.
Please, read the letter from the KY consular center, everything is well detailed there.
Mary
