I was having dinner at my cousin's house. She became a citizen about two years ago. I noticed that she kept her naturalization proudly displayed on her living room wall, next to all the softball and fishing trophies... :)

Upon closer inspection, I noticed that sha had laminated the thing and placed it inside a picture frame....

Is she even supposed to do that with the certificate? : :D

USCIS officers warned against this at my oath ceremony. Laminating or defacing the natz cert invalidates it, and getting a replacement costs $$ and can take up to a year.

That said, if your friend has already obtained her US passport, chances are she won't ever need to show the cert to anyone official.

That's what I thought I heard when I atteneded another friend's oath ceremony in a federal courthouse. :)

Oh well...

Yup, at this point, it probably won't matter. She can use her U.S. passport from now on. My certificate is behind glass, permanently mounted as well... .

Cheers!

The official did tell us not to laminted it. It doesn't matter anyway, when you apply for US Passport, they would mostly insist on stapling your certificate along with the application.

issues...

Is her being a US citizen that important that she had to laminate her certificate???  It is quite a show...

For now, it doesn't matter. However, let us hope that she doesn't have a box of photocopies which she send as a gift to people... :D :D
