My analysis on Lou Dobbs interview !

Eduardo Aguirre seemed highly conscious about the backlogs and was really promising(only promising?) to do everything under the sun to improve the process. Don't you guys think so ?

Lou did ask him about Legal immigration backlogs, and he again promised to improve the situation. Sadly he was not specific, but maybe he does not have a plan.

I really think that going to Lou did not hurt us at all, but on the contrary, it could be the reason as to why the issue of backlogs was brought up by Lou.

Maybe Cinta and Edison were right about going to the media. We tried it and it did do something, in making Eduardo admit the backlog problems, and make promises (??).

At least it did not hurt as some of us had thought !

Let me know your thoughts ?

sai,
thanks for bringing up the whole thing before it happened. Let us all keep looking for these programs whether in TV, Radio or Press. Let us encourage all to continue sending e-mails to LOU and others. The media cannot hurt us as we have nothing against us. Next one should be O'REILLY (talking about illegals AGAIN!!! tonight).
Analysis: The report was superficial, short and targeted towards its theme, "THE GREAT AMERICAN GIVEWAY", i.e. somehow the US is giving away Citizenships and/or GCs. Emphasis on ILLEGALS with numbers, showing tunnels from Mexico, etc., as if there is not enough anti-immigration fever already. Eduardo mentioned "Customer Service" improvements as a goal (what a joke with the National 800 number)and BACKGROUND CHECKS. he mentioned the latter three times!! But he provided no solutions as to how to implement his ot others' background checks. He also mentioned improvements in Procedures and Processes. That is another joke. There have been absolutely NO IMPROVEMENTS in this area. On the contrary downhill as DOJ AShcroft wishes. There was mention of lottery, Asylum, Family based immigration (chain immigration), agriculture BUT no mention of Employment based immigration, other than Congress H and L visas caps by Eduardo (kind og whatever Congress decides).
Another interesting aspect was the THINK TANKS people who gave their short but targeted answers. One on family based immigration (CENTER FOR IMMIGRATION STUDIES) and another one called, Immigration Policy Institute. Also a person from NUMBERS USA gave his opinion.

Conclusion: CONTINUE the fight with Media. Express your opinions to Lou and/or Oreilly.

Let us contact the THINK TANKS also.

This was the important question, part of which could have been influenced by our note to Lou today.

DOBBS: Streamlining the process, your department, obviously, has been criticized for tremendous delays and inefficiencies before you took over. But now that you are in charge of that department, are you going to be able to improve on the procedures and the process for legal immigrants?

AGUIRRE: Well, that's the promise I gave the president and having given that promise to the president, I will make sure that I improve customer service, that I reduce backlogs and I do it all in a environment and increased security, recognizing that we're now fighting terrorism and we want to make sure that we let the right people in, we serve them right and we keep the wrong people out.

It is a great idea to send the backlog petitions to think tanks also

I think cinta is right. We should send those petitions to think tanks too.

Even though those organizations do not have much political power (some may be), but they generally more believe in fairness, democracy, impartial and long-term development and growth to the social, cultural and public interest.

They may be sympathetic to us. They may have scholars studying immigration issues for policy makers.

We need more voices and we need more supports.

Here are some links.

Good Job in sending email.

In US, the think tanks have a lot of say in shaping the policy, as the politicians use them to tread water. So, we should follow up on that.

This was the only question deviating from the main discussion about illegal immigration and unemployment issue, so I strongly believe that this question was asked just due to mails about backlog. So we can stop worrying about backlash.

They actually are very influential. They are populated by ex-government officials and big shots. Example Empower America and Bennet, etc.
