Does any one know if I can work part time for a 2nd company, while working full time for the company that filed my I-140? I have an approved EAD.

YES - you can.

There is a minor thing to remember if you are still on H1 .....
When you use your EAD for the 2nd job, you need to switch your 1st job also to EAD (since using EAD voids your H-1)

And a final note that's unrelated to immigration status ...
check with your 1st company's legal dept. to make sure your 2nd job won't result in any "conflict of interest" - this is important to resolve up front

How do you switch your job from H-1 to EAD? Do you just let the companies know or you have to submit some forms to USCIS?

Talk to the HR in your company and tell them u r shifting to EAD and give your EAD info .... They will submit a I-9 form to indicate that u r working on EAD .. the I-9 submitted by them indicates whether u r om H1 or EAD .
