multiple files, A# numbers etc

Hi,

I came across various posts where decision was delayed because of duplicate files or two A# numbers etc.

My question is
Does it happen for people who worked here on OPT and then switched to H1B or it can happen to anyone?

My case is I came here on H1 and then switched to another employer(who sponsored my greencard) and got GC through him. Has anyone with clear cut case also got into this issue?

Thanks in advance

I had my interview on 3/26 and they said that I have more than one file in my name and it could take long, but I did get my oath letter for 05/22 on friday (4/25) exactly after a month from my interview date....

I did consular processing for my GC rather than the 485 route. Who knows how multiple files are created in the wonderful world of INS.

Mine was a straight case, no issues. Got GC in EB1 from TSC. The computer find some files lying down at national service center during my interview on 01/18, still now no decision made. See how one can get penalised!!!

Second "A" File

I can vouch for the mysetrious working of the USCIS.
Today is the 121st day from my interview when they suddenly talked about a second "A" file; I thought it would be quick since I did not have a second "A" number. Took an Infopass appointment exactly on the 90th day hoping to speed things up but as of this evning no such luck. Had planned to travel but will have to postpone.
Just wait and see whether I will be able to vote in the 2008 election!

Update

I took an Infopass appointment this morning to find out the status of my case.
What a relief when the Officer advised me that the second "A" file had been traced and consolidated on 04/19. When I asked him what about the oath ceremony he again went into his computer and found that my oath ceremony is on 25th May at 8:30AM, He was gracious and even wrote the time, date and address although it will be at the same office building. Said it was my lucky day--coulnt agree more with him.

This is really interesting. Were you a student or on some other non-immigrant status (like J visa) before moving to H1B and then GC through consular processsing. If not, this would mean it is not just duplicate A#s but also files lying in DOS or NVC that need to be all collated, consolidated and closed when one becomes a US citizen. Once that process starts one falls out of line, and it is hard for the immigration officer to pull one back in to the process. No one might even be checking how many such cases are now ready for decesions once the files are consolidated.

thanks for your feedback.

Multiple A#'s

I entered the country in March/93 in H1B status. The only reason that I can think of multiple files is due to Consular Processing. My files were moved to Sydney Australia and then to Chennai, India. I was living in Australia for about a year because of the 6year limit applicable in those days..

I am assuming that's the reason of multiple files in my case. I am happy its resolved and I am scheduled for my oath on 05/22.

I too came to the US on an H1B Visa, and did consular processing at Sydney. Do you think I might have two files too?
thanks.

It is possible. May be NVC created a file and so did INS. I believe the INS A# gets discarded and the A# assigned during the Consular interview gets picked. I recall on the package that was given to me after the consular interview had some numbers on it. I entered thru Boston for convenience purposes. I did ask those questions during my citizenship internview on how two A#'s could exist for some one. The IV officer has a wicked smile and said that its possible.

I hope your case gets resolved quickly.
