Dear Mr.Mills:

I’m a physician, presently working in Boston. As any other frequent visitor to the immigration forum website, I greatly appreciate your comments on that site.

I recently (March 2003) filed for I-140 and I-485 concurrently for a job in Chicago based on an approved labor certification. Today looking at the receipts I realized that my lawyer mistakenly filed in Vermont instead of Nebraska. I wonder what the fate of applications filed in wrong centers is, are they
1- automatically transferred to the appropriate center
2-denied
3-returned to the applicant so that they he can reapply in the proper center.

If they are automatically transferred to the appropriate center, do I end up losing some time. I mean does the new service center process it based on its initial receipt date or does it reset the clock.

I greatly appreciate your advise
