I mailed Mr. Mathew Oh Esquire (http://www.immigration-law.com/) about our problem (even though he is mainly associated with NSC cases). Here's the mail ...

Dear Sir,

I am a frequent visitor of your website. I like your "Breaking News" section, especially the "Weekend Reader" part! :)

Question: You might have heard of the enormous I-485 processing time delays in TSC. We contacted senators/congressmen and submitted petitions (e.g. http://www.immigration.com/common/rsk/petition_texas_new.html). What else can we do to request TSC to start processing I-485 petitions?

Thank you for your time,
- bajis

bajis: Unfortunately, I-485 processing remains at standstill again in all the Service Centers. No reasons have been given at this time, but as soon as the special registration is over on April 25, 2003, it may change, IMHO. Political pressure may not work well in the current situation. ASA I hear something, I will post it immediately. I know how you feel about over 2-year delays in TSC. I share you pains. Thanks. Matthew

Question for users:

Does anyone know what IMHO means?

reply from lamar smith - congressman

I had sent the petition to Lamar Smith (Texas Congressman) and he replied back as a politician would that he shares our pains and that he is proud that he has sponsored several laws that reduce the backlogs. He said that the month old BCIS will look into these delays but offered no commitment on his part to do anything. We can only hope that writing to several people and pushing our own lawyers to lobby for us will fall in someone’s ears.

special registration

What special registration? anyone?

> but as soon as the special registration is over on April 25, 2003, it may change

leahwang,

I think "Special Registration" is for people from the 26 selected countries, who are supposed to go to their local INS office to undergo an immigration check and to give their fingerprints.

Rumor is that before the INS officer approves ANY (especially I-485) petition, he/she has to also check if the applicant has completed special registration (if the applicant is from one of those countries).

bajis, IMHO = In my honest (or humble) opinion

As for special registartion, it is another hopeful thinking about why TSC is not approving. As I said you can keep giving one reason and another but nothing explains prolong (2 year or more) TSC inefficiency.

Unfortunately, I-485 processing remains at standstill again in all the Service Centers

I dont think that is correct. All other SCs are approving I-485 regularly.

I do not agree with the post that there is a freeze in all other centers as well. There might have been a freeze in other service centers for a short amount of time but none can come close to the freeze in TSC. I don’t trust that April 25 will be the golden date when we will start seeing 485 approvals. Who knows what other plans TSC has up their sleeves to keep their officers occupied.

By the way here is my plug in for people in the forum to be proactive and bring up the issues with their lawyers, congressperson, senators etc.
In this month’s murthy’s bulletin if you read this paragraph it says that it would help the congressional members if they know the issues. So folks please use the petition and the signatures to its fullest extent, the more we make ourselves heard the more we help ourselves.

With the initial meetings completed, The Law Office of Sheela Murthy intends to continue pursuing pro-immigration issues with these aides and the members of Congress they represent. Communicating with the aides is rather easy, and we recommend that our readers spend some time each year corresponding with their Congressional members through eMails, letters, telephone calls, or personal visits to the members' national or local offices. When all voices of the public are heard, our representatives make their most informed decisions. This is why our Office appreciates the opportunity to present these positive initiatives to our leaders in Washington.
