We got a good news about my husband new job. He need to resume on the 16th of January! Great! What about me? That means going to a new state in a half month! And I do have appointment for my Citizenship, beggining of February in NY. My husband saying, dont worry, they will understand(former INS) :D , if you move to another state, they will give you another time, another place and so on...
Hi is an American, ignorant about laws, but I learned my lessons before, because we moved so many times. My work permit was lost in the mail, we traveled for the first interview from Pittsburgh,PA to Newark,NY, because we got out letter few days after our move to Pitt,PA!
What do I do? If I get to another state, by law you need to respond between 10 days to change your address! But, since my Interview on the 2nd of February I cannot see my move anywhere, but my husband does. And what about oat? How long it takes? I really need good advice not to make a mistake this time! Thanks.

Just an idea; "Don't move"(**) for another week-10 days
then go on Feb. 02 to the interview and tell to IO that you just moved a week ago (less than 10 days!) and ask him/her to change the address in your file. This way you're sure that you don't miss you interview, and also that in your file not in Got knows what forgotten database, they have your new address.

(**) understand "don't move" the way you want.
-If I said just move and tell the IO that you moved on Dec. 16 he/she may jump on you that you didn't anounced the change of address within 10 days...and you don't want to take chances with these people...
-If I said move and tell to IO that you moved less than 10 days ago...some guys here may jump on me saying that I advice you to lie....even though is an innocent, harmless lie.
One thing I'm sure: Don't postpone the interview!!!

Why can't your husband stay in a motel (inexpensive) for two weeks? If you send a new address to INS, will the interview has to be cancelled? I feel postponing the interview is not worth it in your case.

Delay YOUR move at least until after the interview and ideally longer. Any other option will significantly delay your case at this point as you will have to re-establish residency in your new state / district -- a 3 month delay as a minimum, plus you risk other delays typical of the USCIS (imagine what happens if your file gets "lost" during this transfer...!)

However, even if you stay around until after the interview, how are you going to get the oath ceremony letter? You risk that it will not get forwarded to your new address if you've registered a conventional change of address with the USPS -- the USPS will generally not forward USCIS mail that is endorsed as "do not forward." As I recall, my oath ceremony letter did not have such an endorsement (unlike all of the other notices I had received up to that point), but I wouldn't count on this.

You might then consider using the USPS's "Premium Forwarding Service" which will forward virtually all mail -- you pay $10 for every week that your mail is being forwarded. This will only work if no one else is at your old address since ALL mail to that address will be forwarded. However, when to file AR-11 in this scenario (which you must still do) is another issue... yikes, I'm glad I don't have to worry about this now!

Bottom line: your husband should move to the new location and live in some sort of temporary arrangement until you're done, otherwise your moving before then makes this all very messy.

Thank you for your reply. My husband eventually agreed for me to stay till mid of February! But how long will be waiting to take an Oat? A week? A month? If I can get an Oat before I move that means all my dreams come true! But dreams usually dont happen, specially with INS!

Dpending on where you live, oath can be on the same day of your interview. But only some of the offices allow this. In other offices, if the file is complete and you are approved for naturalization, oath letter usually arrives between 1 month to 3 months timeframe. Some offices are faster and some can take up to 6 months for the oath too. It all depends on the frequency of oath ceremonies and the number of applicants in your local office. Sometime people get interviewed just before the cerrmony and they get a quick turn around.

I suggest that you ask the officer abouth the oath after your interview is complete.

Sorry, not to mention before, where my interview get place? In NY and in Plaza! And Im moving to Washington,DC, not much hope I guess?

Folks

I had a question on the address change issue. Lets assume after applying
N-400, a person retains his original permanent address & because of job change takes up a consulting or contracting assignment out of state living in extended housing/motel etc in out of state . In this situation , does that warrant a red flag or problem with USCIS ie can the original DO be maintained
(I'll be out of state for a while till interview & spouse will reside in original permanent residence)

Thanks
