Please help!!! Moved to a new place 2 weeks ago

Hi gurus,

You have been a great help in past. I have a another question for you.

I have been laid off beginning of this month, on the 190th day after my 485 was filed. Fortunately I got another job within a week and had to move to different city within that short period. I am staying in a hotel for about 2 weeks and would be moving to apartment in next 5 days.

Since, I didn't have the new address, didn't file the change of address form. ** I still paying the rent until this month end at my old place.

With this new law and other rumors, My concern is what day should count as day 1 to begin counting for 10 days. What if you told them or they received your change of address form on 11th day. Would my 485 application get cancelled ....

Please let me know what your thought/suggestions are ...

New law on Address Change

Hello

Please notify IANS about your address change

as per new law all the Non citizens must notify IANS , about change of address, you can download the forms search for the correct site

one of my coolegue got GC one year back, recently he changed his address, but immediately he sent a change of address form to IANS

Since you are paying the rent for this month, you should be able to inform INS after you get the new apartment. Hotel address is obviously temporary, and will not make any sense to INS.

Think about why INS wants to force the address change. So that if they need to find you in this vast country, they have the record. Since you are paying the rent for this month, officially you haven't moved. Once your lease is cancelled at the old place, and you sign the new lease, at that time you need to inform INS. Also, you have got 10 days period afte the move during which you should inform INS. So, once you move to the new place (after ~5 days), you will have 10 more days. It won't be that difficult to fill out the address change form in those 15 days.
