Yesterday, we heard the words. Yes the visa has been approved. Even though it is approved for only 1 year multiple entry.

Here is a short summary of the case.

We wanted to call our in laws (fil is 54 yrs old, working and mil is 53 yrs old, housewife) in the month of October 2002 when we were expecting the arrival of out son. They got rejected first time with the reason of "You won't come back". Even though my in laws have 2 younger children studying in India and they had all the documents (property document, birth certificates of their children, etc etc). They reapplied again after 3 days and got rejected again on the same grounds. The officer said "I second the decision taken by the first officer".

OK..a lot of disappointment.

Recently in the month of March, our son was admitted to a hospital with RSV and he is also suffering from GERD (gastro esaphogal Reflux disease) from about one month of age. He was admitted to the hospital for about a week in the month of march 2003.

While in the hospital, I asked his pediatrician if he would give a letter stating the current disease and the medical condition of my son and he said yes and he gave a detailed letter detailing the medical condition of my son.

With that letter, hospital admission records and a strong, detailed
sponsership letter from me, we tried applying through the mail review process again. This time we tried only for MIL instead of both. Well the process did take a long time (~ 3months) but finally yesterday my MIL was
called for interview and got a visa for 1 year.

The reason I am writting this in details because even if there is a small medical condition, if there are some people in this situation... (2 earlier rejections...and wanting to go for the mail review process, well getting the letters from their doctors, specialists or anyone of authority will certainly help their case.

Hope this helps....to those who are suffering at the hands of rude and insensitive consular officers at the US consulates.
