Mother AOS Application - Waiting for 4.5 months

I applied for Adjustment Of Status (AOS) for my mother on April 23rd 2015 through NJ. She got her finger printing done on May 18th. Since then we haven't seen any movement in her case. Her status online hasn't changed since then.

Does any one know
1. What is the typical wait time?
2. If AOS applicants go through FBI name-check?
3. Can she travel outside US for 3-4 months while we are awaiting the response?

Every case is different. 8 months is not unusual. Some take years. How long it takes doesn't really matter because once she has EAD and Advance Parole (she can apply for these for free as an AOS applicant; if she didn't apply initially she can apply now; she will get them in 3 months after applying), she has most of the benefits of a green card.

If she leaves the US without H or L status or an Advance Parole, she will automatically abandon her Adjustment of Status. If she has an Advance Parole already, she can travel outside the US.
