I f you have a mortgage on a property where you are living now - are you expected to sell? Would this come up in an interview?

I think what one does with property outside of the US is personal and the consular would only ask if they are curious. Just my take.

The US doesn't care about your debts overseas. As long as the holder of the debt doesn't demand that you pay it off before you leave you are ok.

@pru,in my own opinion once you are not trouble by the owner to pay up the debt then you are fine. But as of the USA they have no business about you oversea debt.So you should be fine by this.

Thanks to those that have replied, but I suppose what I needed to know is that the bank still owns the property - I am paying it off, which means most of my assests are tied in - therefore do I need to demonstrate $30000 in savings, on top of my property to prove my finances? Is there any other home owners in this position?
