moral character question

Question about moral character question in the US citizenship application. I was a student in the US from 2000-2004.

In March of 2003, I traveled back home to Canada. When I got to the airport to go back to school, I lied to an immigration officer, saying that I was visiting a friend (because my student visa wasn't renewed). I got caught, they detained me in a little room in the airport and I confessed. The officers told me that I would have to get a new temporary student visa from my school and I was sent back home.

I called the international student center, was issued a temporary visa in a week and I was allowed to finish my studies until 2004. I married my wife in 2004 and got a green card with restriction and got my full fledged green card in 2007. I have not been in any trouble with the law since (not even a parking ticket)

During the interview (for the green card), I had to explain what had happened at the airport in 2003. I sincerely apologized to the immigration officer and I was granted the temporary green card.

I was wondering if this incident would affect if I were to application for citizenship? Is there a statute of limitations? Which question should i put this on my application?

Looks like you will need to disclose this as a detention because apparently either you disclosed in in your GC application or it was on your record. My hypothesis is that this should not be an issue because you were not prosecuted for any crime even though you were denied entry, generally a problem. The fact that you got a GC means that you are okay.
