Missing change of address info on N-400

Hi folks,

This has been bothered me for a long time. I moved within the same building in the first year of my green card, so it's the same address but just different apartment number. I didn't fill that in back then since I never filed the AR-11 to notify INS the change of address.

So the question is, should I raise this question at the inteview (and bring the update page), or it is actually considered the same address? Would it complicate my case and delay the approval? Please advise!

Thanks in advance,

Different apartment numbers constitute a different address.

Most likely won't complicate your case. If they specifically ask you about your housing history, tell them that there should've been an added entry.

I doubt they really care. However, you do want to make sure you're completely truthful on you citizenship application. Just print an update of that page and bring it with you to the interview.

I consulted a lawyer after I filled in my N-400 and before I submitted it. No one had ever told me about the AR-11 process (and, I actually asked whether I had any obligations for stuff like that on the day I got my GC).

Anyway, I was worried since I had moved from New England to Texas about 5 years earlier. So I asked my lawyer.

Her answer was something like: "Your obligation is not to fill in the AR-11, but to inform them of the change of address. When you fill in the N-400 with your current address you are doing that. Don't worry". It never came up at either of our interviews (but, we each had only had one address on the N-400 form).

And of course, I'm not a lawyer, this is not legal advice, etc.

1caliN400 - yes I guess I would just bring a copy of that page.

Flydog - In fact, I might have lived in the current address for 5 years (I waited 9 months for the interview) so the problem might be solved by then....

Guys - thanks for sharing the experience/advice!
