Minutes of meeting with Congresswoman Anna Eshoo

Just got back from a Congresswoman Anna Eshoo's (14th District) town meeting. This was positively the largest town meeting I had attended till date, over 150-200 participants. Most of whom where senior citizens, concerned over the medicare package.

Kashmir and san_gcwait, had sumbitted their questions to be answered by the Congresswoman, and unfortunately she only answered Kashmir's due to lack of time and the number of questions she had from other people.

The most interesting thing was as she read Kashmir's name, she immediately recognised it, looked around the huge auditorium, recognised Kashmir's face and addressed the answer to him. This is definitely terrific news that she is aware of the problem and the efforts people on this forum have made to bring it to her notice.

What she basically said was, that she has spoken to Don Neufield about the issue and that he will be getting back to her on this backlog problems. She also said that she was aware of the issue and will raise it in the appropriate forums.

After the meeting, I did get the chance to speak to Anna as well as her aide personally, and she told me that Don Neufield's office has promised a detailed reply to the questions posed by the Congresswoman in the next 2-3 weeks.

All in all, a good meeting, we had a number of new faces and not many old ones. The people who attended the meeting were
  • Kashmir
  • san_GCwait
  • desi_mazdur + 3 friends
  • 140_takes_4ever
As usual thanks to all those who attended, I would also like to request all those who are in the same situation, to please help us in our quest. THIS IS FOR ALL OF US! If you come to these town meetings which don't take more than a couple of hours of your time each month, you will be making a huge difference. This is the only way that Congressmen/women, will learn that there are so many people involved. Your stories are important. Don't wait for others to fight your fight. Help US!

All the people who showed up for Congressman Pete Stark's meeting, please consider coming to other district meetings as well, as a show of solidarity if nothing else.

As a parting rejoinder, think about what would happen if people like Kashmir, san_gcwait and desi_mazdur, the regular few who are doing all the running around right now get approved. WHO will fight for you? Please participate or things will just die after their approvals. Hoping to see many more of you at the next town meeting.

I will attend next time

Thanks for all you guys, I will try my best to attend next time, although I am in district 13 (I assume it is ok to attend town hall meeting of other district, right?)

Candie,

No worries on which district you belong too. We are trying to get all the bay area Congressmen/women involved, and are trying to start a group that will visit each district's town meeting regardless of the fact that they don't live in that district.

I don't think there will be another 14th district meeting, so it might be 12th or 15th next. Not sure about the dates.

If each one of us could take the responsibility of finding out the dates of their respective district's town meeting and letting the rest of us know. We can all congregate there and take our petition up together to the Congressman/woman.

ibm101,

Thanks for your support. I do hope you can make it for the next meeting.

Hey 140 and Kashmir,

Some how I missed this town hall meeting, I didn't even see the thread about the meeting.

Next time I'll look around for meeting announcememnts.

Thanks a lot 140_takes_forever for posting the minutes. This is for all of you who would like to attend the town hall meetings, as 140_takes_forever has mentioned no matter to which district you belong to, we all should and have been to each other's distt office so, as long as you can find when it is in your distt we all will go
I'll try to find when is the next meeting in Distt 12 and will keep everyone updated.
Thanks once again to all of you for showing tremendous response.

Hi, rk4gc,
We missed you yesterday.

I have attended 8 town hall meetings this year, and Zoe Lofgren's one was the most exciting.
We're looking forwared to her next town hall meeting.

I was there also.

I didn't feel Anna's answer is that positive. She said I-485 applicants are not in urgent and we have job, work authorization and blah blah.
When I awared the question sheet would be answered on spot, I submitted one also. But, it was too late to get it read/answered in the meeting, otherwise, we could get more attention now matter how small it is. I also left a fax letter addressed to Anna on a table. I prepared it before I went there.

I noticed you guys approach Anna after the meeting and discuss outside the building. Appreciate your effort much. Sorry for not greeting you.

wittAAAA,

Anna also said, bringing grievances to light is the most important thing. We haven't been able to collect enough of a mass uprising to show the urgency of our cause. As and when more people participate in the process, we will more and more results.

Thanks for taking the trouble to attend the meeting in your individual capacity. It is not essential to go together as a group. The only reason we do it is to encourage people who are not that keen on facing a public spotlight to raise their hands and be counted as part of a group. But more power to you if you can do it alone. Sorry we din't greet you! :)

We are actually planning to start a yahoo group for bay area district meetings. We plan to use that as a more effective communication tool since the forum might not reach everyone. Please PM your email addresses to Mazdur_desi, who has volunteered to act as a contact for the yahoo group.

Thanks!

working with Mike Honda's office - Need little help

I am working with Mike Honda's office and with Zoe Lofgren's washington office.

I need the following three documents. Kashmir or anyone else who has them, please provide them to me.
1. Letter Ana Eshoo wrote to CSC director. I think it was on one of these threads but am not able to track it down. I do need the fax copy of the original letter. I will send my fax number once i know who has it.
2. The link to thread where we have information on Don N. (CSC Director) recent statement on reduction of backlog.
3. The letter Diane Feinsteing recently wrote to CSC Director. If there was one. Or was it that she wrote to Kashmir only?

Please provide this as it will help motivate the above two offices to take some action.

Thanks,
