Minor passport expiring, travel to India

My wife and daughter needs to travel to India urgently.

Both are US citizens and have OCI.

The problem is my daughters minor passport expires in April 2014. She has OCI. The total travel will be 10 days time in January.

Would my daughter have any problems leaving USA i.e. at the airport/Airlines and entering India? Since she has less than 6 months validity remaining on her USA passport

There may be time to get a new US passport, but the issue is that OCI re issue will take more than 30 -60 days. I understand that minors cannot travel with OCI in the old passport (suppose even if we take the old passport with OCI stamp, the new passport, and OCI booklet). Thus would it be better to travel with the old passport with 3 months remaining, rather than applying for new passport?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

AFAIK minors can travel to India with new US passport + old US passport + Old OCI. Several people have reported it on this forum.

We faced an almost identical situation with my son and his expiring US passport back in 2012. I did not get a new passport for him and we traveled to India and back (using his soon-expiring US passport and OCI card) with no problems whatsoever. One thing to remember is that since your daughter has OCI status, she does not have to leave India even if her US passport expired. You can read my thread about my experience here.
