Hello,

I'm in the military and married to a foreigner. We've been stationed in the US now for almost 2 years and it's time for us to apply to have our conditions removed.

However, I just recieved orders and will be moving to Guam in just a few months. While preparing my house to sell, my wife AND step-daughter's green-card's/SSN-card's were tossed out by accident .

I'm not sure if I will be able to fill out the required forms to get the replacements, and upon reciept, fill out the forms to remove the conditions on time.

It's very bad luck/timing. Does anyone know of a way I can extend my wife's current green-card status until we can get ourselves situated? Or can anyone think of any other things I can do to give us more time?

Any/all help is greatly appreciated,

Bryan

You don't need to wait for the replacement cards.

File I-90 for the replacement cards and pay the fee. If you file online you will get an immediate receipt which you can print, if you file by mail the receipt should arrive in 2-3 weeks.

File a police report about the lost cards, as the cards could end up in the hands of criminals and the cops should be aware of the lost cards lurking out there. Also, the police report is important to have if there is another interview and the card is unavailable at the interview.

Make an Infopass appointment, take the I-90 receipts and passports, and a copy of the cards if you have it. They will put a temporary I-551 stamp in the passports, and that stamp will serve as evidence of permanent residence for the next several months, which can be used for work or travel or any other situation where proving permanent resident status is necessary (including replacing the Social Security cards).
