Does anyone know if a LPR joins the army, how quickly they can get naturalized if they are on active duty or reserve?
Also, is it true that if USC is working for an American company or business overseas then the spouse of that USC can get the green card in 10 days?
If so, would that be possible if you are deployed or based at military base in europe etc?
Thank you so much for the help.

Only active duty personel. It still takes seveal months to become a citizen through the military.
You are still stuck with them for the full 4 year enlistment.

Maybe not in 10 days. But with direct consular filing a spouse of an expatriate can get the GC in a couple of weeks without involvement of CIS.

I guess you are a LPR right now and you are looking at the 6 year wait for your spouse. So, the genius plan is to enlist with the military, get yourself deployed to some nice place and get the GC for your spouse while abroad...
Chances are you will have to file for her at the consulate in Bagdad, I heard they have minimal waiting times there :-))

Btw. Once you have died on active duty, they will naturalize your remains. That way your spouse can get the GC even if you are dead. She also will be able to collect a pension.

Currently my spouse is out of status in US for more than 6 months. Would that cause any problems?
Thanks for ure help.

What would be the best bet for me rightnow. I have a GC and will be eligible to file N-400 by the start of 2006 based on 5 years. Now, I also want to get enlisted and in the mean time, i want my spouse to get the GC ASAP? If i get deployed can i file for my spouse while i am surving overseas?
I am really confused what to do.
Thanks again for help.

if your spouse has been out of status for 6months the best option is for him/her to leave the us and apply for a GC after 3 years.
Your joining the armed forces will expedite your citizenship process but it will not do anything to change your spouses 3 year ban due to her being out of status.

an interesting side note to all of this is when a person is on active duty gets killed in combat the family can then apply for "posthumous citizenship" in the soldier's name.

I don't know why they even have it since it holds no value and it is simply an honorary thing.

Why anybody takes LIFE INSURANCE? To protect their loved ones. And this honorary thing have some benefits for active duty person, which he can pass on to his loved ones, incase he gets killed. Its honor as well as VALUE to his family members.., in b2831's case it will be his WIFE.His spouse will have GC in either case of he lives or dies :D :D . I guess thats what b2831 wants!!!RIGHT
