Medicare for Returning GC Holder

Hello,

My Grandma (age 70+) has a GC and was getting Social Security and Medicare while in the US (she was here for than 10 years). However, she has been out of the US on re-entry permit for about 2 years and is planning to return before the permit expires.

Does anyone know if she will be eligible for Medicare when she returns? I heard from someone that she may be ineligible since she has been out of the US for an extended period of time.

I do not know the answer, but I wish to help. I believe you can contact Social Security, or the Immigration officer in US for more information. This is not a common question, that require a professional to answer

My father earned 40 credits while he was a PR. Then he was forced to abandon his PR status. Four years later he became a PR again after I sponsored him and at this point he was over 65. He went to the SS office within a few weeks of arriving and he was eligible for SS and Medicare benefits.
