Hi,

My husband recently got his citizenship and is sponsoring green card for his mom. I would like to know if getting an SSN automatically enable her to enroll for Medicare benefits or there is a process for eligibility. Any information is greatly welcome. Thank you.

In order to qualify for Medicare benefits, your mother in law must have contributed into Medicare for at least 40 quarters. Of course your mother in law would not have done this and there is a way to pay into it after being a permanent resident for 5 years, though the monthly contributions to this are very expensive.

Hi quert1,

there was an identical thread about this just yesterday. You may find it useful to do a little reading and searching before starting a new thread on this. Happy New Year!
