Medicals at Hinduja in Mumbai: Nice and uneventful

Hey Guys,

India is fun. i am having loads of activities and funtime in india. and the i-way internet connections are great even at noon. i am amazed. anyway, my wife and I finished our medical at Hinduja yesterday.

1) reached Hinduja\'s main building (on sea side of the road) at 7:10 am and were asked to go across the street to the other building. so you wanna go to the building that is on the left side of the road (not the sea side) while going south on the road. there is a school in the same line on the corner - use it as a marker.

2) there are 7 counters. we filled registration forms and went around to few counters (actually were tossed from one to another) and finally landed at counter #1. the lady did the necessary paperwork, registered us as Hinduja\'s frequent (hope not) customers, gave us the receipts (Rs. 1700 x 2) and prepared the files, etc.

3) carry the following documents:
Original Interview letter + 1 copy
Original passport + copies of first pages (not the entire passport)
Cash (at least Rs. 1700 per person but carry extra) or Citibank Diners Club card. they don\'t accpet Visa/MC/Amex - only diners club.
vaccination records and other medical history (i get my complete annual every year from my company including lung and ECG tests but they never asked for that.) no need to carry any chest x-rays you might have. the doctor told me they cannot accept anything else and have to take one in their facility. i didn\'t object - i just didn\'t want to expose myself to more radiation if my other x-ray was acceptable.
2 passport style photos (packet 4 mentions you need 3 so i carried 3 but they took only 2 photos)

4) after the files were ready, we were asked to go to 3rd floor, wing 4. a nurse greeted us just as we were boarding the lift (that\'s what elevators are called. good to be back in India). she took us up to 3rd floor and through a fundoo waiting area to a doctor\'s room in wing 4. there they checked all the documentation, collected photos, filled vaccination forms, weighed us, BP/pulse measurement. i didn\'t have a copy of interview letter so i said i will submit it later. she said that\'s fine but don\'t leave till the morning portion of testing is done.

4) the morning portion includes:
vaccination, if any
weight/BP/pulse
blood sampling
X-ray (they take you through the bridge - first time for me in my life in Mumbai - to the main bldg)

This was done for us at around 9:20 am (might go up to 10:30 am per their welcome letter). i then went out and made a copy of my interview letter and returned to 3rd floor and submitted it back to the nurse. everybody in the building knows about this program called "US Immigration Visa Check". so you ask anybody and they will send you to the right person.

5) we then took a cab to My Own Studio. The cabdriver was really nice too. didn\'t understand "US Consulate" but understood "America" - the country that fights. the old fellow at the studio was really sweet and nice and took our pictures. Rs. 200 for next day delivery and Rs. 400 for same day. i chose Rs. 200 one.

the consulate was closed due to President\'s day but was guarded by never seen before security. road blocks were also there. i wouldn\'t like to stay in one of those building nearby. infact, i would ask US consulate to move to a remote location.

went to churchgate for shopping, lunch, etc.

6) came back to Hinduja at 1:30 pm as requested. went to the first floor and sat in the waiting area till 2:35 pm without any activity. they had not recorded my BP/pulse in the morning so i was called in for another check up. and i waited once again.

7) then my name was called at around 2: 45 pm and both of us went together to wing 4 of first floor. advice: just take all your dependents together even though only your name is called to get done with all this early.

8) Dr. Dastum checked us out. vision test, few questions, profession, etc. i had initiall
