Medical examination before marriage?

Hi everybody!

I'm a H1B holder (Italy's citizen) and I'm getting married with my fiancee (USC) in a couple of weeks.
Since I don't wanna waste any time (applying in NYC already has its hassles, timewise), I'm getting all my paperwork done.

I have questions:
1. Can I go to the doctor and have my medical examination done before the actual wedding (I'm sure I can go get all the vaccinations done meanwhile cuz I can't find all the tracking)?
2. I'm a H1B holder, but I want to apply for EAD and travel docs, in case I switch job. Should I keep my current h1B job, can I leave the US even before I obtain the travel docs?
3. When I get my EAD and eventually switch job, do I have to notify USCIS and tell them that my H1B status is no longer valid?

Thanks a lot.

Medical exam has nothing to do with your wedding. The results of the medical exam are generally valid for 12 months.

You are free to travel as long as you have a valid H1B. Some people prefer to stay on H1B and also have EAD at same time. Its like a safety net. You can use your EAD if your H1 is in trouble, or you can continue to be on H1 if you are having problems with your AOS. Its your call, but remember, use of EAD cancels your H1B.

3. When I get my EAD and eventually switch job, do I have to notify USCIS and tell them that my H1B status is no longer valid?
You fill out form I-9 when you use your EAD. Your employer will help you with that.

Thanks a lot.

Ari4u,

Thanks (I see we're in the same situation here H1 to GC).

I have one more question:
If the medical examination are valid for 12 months and I don't have my interview within those 12 months (which is very very likely applying from NYC), do I have to take it again?

Thanks a lot!

That is why the medical examination should be the last thing to do so when you actually apply for AOS it is picturally "fresh from the oven". If you do it before the wedding (which you can do it if you want), you then have to wait for your marriage certificate and the rest of the paperwork done. Can be valuable time.

good luck,
