Medical Exam while filing in Local Center

Hi,

I am in the process of filing up I130/I485/I765 based on marriage to a US citizen spouse.
I am slightly confused with some info on the I485 form. The instructions say that:

"If you are filing your adjustment of status with the local INS office, do not submit a medical report with your adjustment of status application. Wait for further instruction from INS about how and where to take the medical exam and submit the medical exam report"

Is this correct, would it matter if I file I693 with the AOS application? I am confused as an attorney I had consulted earlier had told me that I need to submit I693 along with I485.

If any of you know any information on this, or if you have filed for family based GC in the local service center, then please advise.

The 485 form clearly states that depending upon which service center you are about to file, whether you need to send the medical or not.

I sent it to be on the safe side in NJ. Most of the people in NJ dont send it. Eitherway, they will mail you a letter, when ever its needed.. So its not a show stopper....

I guess I would follow your approach and file I693 to play safe.

I just have one more query, is it necessary to get the medical exam done in the place where you are filing, or can we get the test done by any doctor listed in the BCIS's physicians list?
I ask this as I am on a consulting trip to a city different from my residence and was wondering if I could complete my test there.

I think It has to be under the local center you are filling.

for ex in NJ, Newak covers all of middlesex county, wayne etc so any doctor in those 60 miles is fine... But I cant have it from NY...
 
I was visiting the Pittsburgh BCIS district office last Tuesday and I asked the officer there if I can submit a medical from Kansas for I-130/I-485 concurrent filing.
Answer: YES.

I confirmed with an attorney and according to him, all that is required, is that a BCIS authorized physician conducts the medical exam. The location in US does not matter.

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to share this with everyone.. I had a bad experience with the Medical Examination. I had got the Medical Exam done in Boston (from a physician listed by BCIS) where I was on a business trip and then had submitted my I-485 application in San Jose CA sub office. Contrary to what I had thought, they did not accept the test done in Boston.
They specifically said that the tests have to be done in CA.

Before I had done the tests in Boston, I had not only checked with the BCIS customer service rep on the 1-800-375-5283, but with an attorney too. It still backfired and I had to take the test again in CA.

So my suggestion to anyone filing at the local offices is, when in doubt talk to someone in the local office directly.
