Medical check for I485

Hello all,

I wonder if the Blue cross HMO insurance will pay for the medical exam for I485?
If not, how about treatment if they found something?
I just found out that my company pays everything for our family green card except the medical exam for my wife :( And we need to do the exam soon the next 2 weeks.

Thanks,

If you have private insurance then it depends what your insurance cover. If the surgeon that you must go to take the medical exam is in the list of your insurance coverage then you are okay if not then you must pay it. Anyway they normally are not more than $150 including the X-Ray. What you can do is to call first the surgeon and ask her/him what you need before gets there, if she/he says need this lab test and all that, then you can save money going to your primary health provider that is cover by your insurance and take that done and later on go with all your tests to the surgeon. It is just my personal opinion.
Good luck,

Thank you. If the cost is cheap, I just do it then. Right now, I am waiting for the company lawyer to give me the list of things I need to do for concurrent filling :) Can't wait to get it done.

I checked into this, and it appears that many insurance companies do not pay for the I-485 medical. I had all my shots current and needed none, but the medical still cost me almost $300. Different civil surgeons will charge differently, but this was my cost and experience dealing with my insurance company.

I just done mine on one prefered doctor (he does all paper works, so that is great).
- 100 : check and skin test
- 60 : Xray
- 120 : 2 shot for vaccinne.
So, total are 560 for both of us. I also checked with insurance, they can only pay if I went through my doctor for the X-ray and the vaccinne. But I decided not to do since it cost too much time to go to my family doctor then go to hospital for Xray...
The only thing left is to try to get re-imburse from my boss if possible :)

The company paid for I140+I485+EAD+AP for my familly but only pay the medical exam for myself. That is stupid. They can pay thousands but not hundred LOL (It cost them at least 5K (3K+ for INS alone) to pay for my H1B transfer, wife H4 extension, for the PERM advestiment (but then trashed it after I decide to use Subs labor instead of PERM) and will be a lot for all those above documents, but they are not complaining. Now they complain the policy does not allow them to pay 280 dollars for my wife exam).
