May 1,2011.Why 22,000 winners and not 100,000?

Has something to do with the fact they only send NLs to a part of the 100,000 selectes every May 1?
Please share your thoughts.

22.000 were the only winners that checked their status and know they were selected!

also i can say yes it has something to do with the fact that they only send NLs to a part of the 100.000,cause if all 100.000 were notified ,it had to be 70.000 or 60.000 that checked their status and knew they win!

please don't remind me of May 1st 2011, its over fellas no need to hurt our feelings over and over again.
but i will answer you tho, all i can say is with this status check web site they can know exactly who checked his status and who did not check, and the status web site was open from May 1st to May 6th then got closed due a technical problems from May 6th to May 13th then the bad news announced on May 13th, so 22000 winners would be a logic number for 6 days.
i wish i never checked my status on May 2011, this glitch ruined my life. :(

Bishop,i'm truly sorry for what happened.Hurt your feelings was not my intention at all. Thanks for adding this unknown information for new comers like me.
Now makes more sence to me as i remain hopeful that they are actually selecting more winners for Dv2013.
Regards.

you are right, they could select more winners for Dv2013 whenever they need more people, they could select them this month or next month ,or after few month IF they need them! as our friend ''mdawoodm'' told us when he called KKC,the lady on the athor line told him to keep the confirmation number untile at least 30september2013 even if you have not been selected!
you can also read this interview with the Bureau of Consular Affairs Director of Public and Diplomatic Liaison for the Visa Office, Ms. Karin King:
*************************************************************
QUESTION: And one unrelated question: There was a notation on the DV website that the DV-2013 entrants should keep their confirmation numbers, as it is possible that more entries may be selected, October 1st – which is today – 2012, at noon as we speak. So can you comment on that?

MS. KING: For DV-2013?

QUESTION: Mm-hmm.

MS. KING: Okay. Yeah. If there are not enough qualified entrants – we always – we select more winners than the 50,000, because we know that not everybody is going to qualify, not everybody is even going to pursue the visa. And we hope that we select enough more that we get about what we need. But if we get to a point where we think we may not meet the 50,000, then we will go back and again randomly select more.

QUESTION: I have a follow-up question. But I have not seen that notation before. It seems like this is the first year this is being done, the additional selection in October, other than what was done in April or May. Or is it a standard practice; it just has been posted on the website and we weren’t aware of that before?

MS. THURMOND: So I can answer that. We have done this in the past, but what happened was that was when we were using a mail notification, so what happened was we simply sent out more letters to people. Now that we’ve moved to an electronic notification, people have to go on and check again to find out if they were added to the second group. So it is a practice we’ve done in the past, but this is the first time that people have to check back in to find out if they were selected as part of the second group.
