Maximum Duration of J2 EAD

Hi everyone this is a great resource!

I've learned recently that the maximum length of time a J2 dependent can get work permission is four years. If the associated J1 renews his/her visa and DS2019 does that four years start from a clean slate? eg. initial DS2019 is valid for four years and EAD for J2 is issued for four years. When the DS2019 is renewed for another 3 years, can the J2 apply for an EAD again?

i was on J2 3 years back...so rules may have changed...

but back then.....normal max for J1 was 3 years.....but i had heard about NIH getting J1 for 5 years......

and J2 will get a EAD as long as he is on J2....i dont think there was any max limit on J2......

if there is any limit....it will be on J1 (in my opinion)
