Hi I am from Spain and my boyfriend is a US Citizen. I live in New York state and I go to the university. He is a veteran army never married before but has two kids. We have been talking about moving in together. I have been in the US for about 5 years on F-1 visas, but I am concerned about my status, so I am unsure if I should say yes when he actually pops the question (which I think he will soon, his sister told me):
1) If we marry, I would probably want to marry back home (I mean the main celebration in Spain), but we will still go to city hall in the US
2) how do we go about this, get started, and in what order? lawyer? contact embassy? city hall? file the paperwork (I-130 or I-485)?
3) Do I have to go back to my country (I would not want to until Christmas)?
4) Do I lose my student visa status while I am in the process of getting a Green Card (I do not want to stop school or anything like that, I'd rather postpone my wedding than my school)?
