Marrying a green card holder.

I am a Green card holder and i plan to marry a girl who is a foreign resident(India).We are studying currently in India.If i marry her in India after what time would she get her green card?
Also If she is on B-1 visa or F-1 category,when i marry her how would that make a difference?
I read online posts and they say that getting a green card through marriage takes 4-5 years..Is that true?
If yes during that time can my spouse travel to US for studies if she gets a call from some university.

Please guide.

More than likely she will be denied a F or a B visa because she would then considered to have immigrant intent by virtue of marriage to a LPR. Both F and B visa do not allow immigrant intent.
If you apply for her it will take 2-3 years according to the January 2011 visa bulletin.
