Marrying a green card holder.. spouse is on H1 here.. what\'s the deal?

Hi Gurus,

I am posting this message for my friend. She is in US on H1 visa. Her would be husband is a green card holder.
How can she apply for her greencard? How long will it take for her to get greencard? What are the complications?

Her H1 is valid till July 2002.

My cousin got it in three years. There is a law which allows the
spouse to get temporary green card three years after RD, if the actual green takes more than three years.

So within the next three years the person on H-1 should find a way to
stay legally here in the US(That is a big pain).

The other option(my cousin did consider)a person can stay legally in the US even after H-1 expires is by getting Canadian green card(takes
an year) while one waits for the US green card, or MOVING TO A STUDENT
VISA.
