Marry a Permanent Resident while applying for F-1

My friend is applying for F-1 visa and going back to school. If he marries a Permanent Resident before he gets the F-1 visa, will he get trouble in obtaining the non-immigration F-1 visa? What if he gets married as a F-1 student?

I was on GC and got married and my husband was on F1.

I have shown him everywhere as my spouse and we file taxes together as well.
