My family came to the US in 1999 when my father received H1-B visa. My older sister was 20 at the time, so she wouldn't have been elegible for H4 visa in the following year. However, she got married to a green card holder and our immigration lawyer filed a petition for her. Unfortuanetely, he didn't discus the details with us, and last year he died without letting us know what is the status of her case. A couple of months later, her husband became a citizan.
We sent his naturalization certificate to USCIS, and on their website it said that her I-130 petition was approved, but she didn't get anything in the mail, and post office said that they can't tell anything without a tracking number which we of course didn't have.
In the meantime, my sister sent I-485, and she still didn't get any receipt for that, although she has sent it about 6 months ago. She called USCIS a couple of times, and they told her that she needs the approval of I-130 that she didn't get and to send that too to her file for I-485. When she said that she doesn't have it, they told her that she can get the copy of it for $195, so she has sent the form to get it, and today she got a receipt which says that they will process her case and send her the copy of the approval 150 to 999 days from the receipt date!
What should she do?
