Married applying separately for US citizenship, on different dates

Hi,

I have a question about when to file for us citizenship. I am coming close to be eligible to apply for US citizenship (5 years completed). My wife actually got her green card in the past few months after mine. Can I apply for citizenship as soon as I am eligible and my wife later when she becomes eligible. Can any complication happen due to this. I just want to be sure it doesn't get into any issue. Please advise.

Thx in advance .. Raj-R

For sake of convenience, you can bundle both applications together in one package and if all goes well, your fingerprint, interview and oath will all happen together.

If you want to increase the chances of being interviewed and/or having the oath on the same day, wait until both of you are eligible then send the two applications together in one big envelope. However it's not a guarantee; either case may take longer than the other for any random reason.

But apart from that, there is no complication if you apply months or years apart. Even though one of your green cards may have been dependent on the other, for naturalization neither application is dependent on the other, and there is no requirement or expectation that both spouses should apply together.

Thank you Jackolantern & nkm-oct23 so much for your response. In this case, I will go ahead and file mine first and my wife's later when she finishes her 5 years.
