Marriage Certificate

Recently I got married with GC holder. Next week I'm sending my i-130 form to start my long process. As I required document I need to include marriage certificate. I got something right after the ceremony blue piece of paper saying that we are married etc, but we were told that marriage certificate will be sent by mail. Should I wait for the mail or can I include this blue certificate I got?

I don't know what is the blue paper since things change from state to state; but the supportive documents that you need to include is the "marriage certificate" so wait for the certificate. Normally it doesn't take so long to get on the mail after the marriage.

Good luck,

I live in Kansas, the paper we got when we got married is not marriage certificate, we had to mail an application and some fee to get the marriage certificate. I would wait till the certificate comes, otherwise a RFE might slow down the process and cause lots trouble.

In my state, you have to wait for a whole month after the wedding ceremony to apply for the certificate. So it took me about 1.5 month to get it.

You need a marriage certificate for sure. In California (where I got married) we need to get a marriage license before getting married, after the ceremony the minister signed on our marriage license and announced us husband & wife. Then we need to bring the signed marriage license back to Registrar-Recorder to order a marriage certificate for $13 + $13.65 for Express Mail fee (they said it'll take 7-10 days for Express Mail but it'll take 4-6 WEEKS for regular mail  )

I asked the lawyer if I could apply AOS with the signed marriage license, and the answer is NO.

It makes you appreciate Florida

You get a marriage license on the spot. After the ceremony and signing the license, we mailed it. 2 days later we got the certificate in the mail :) No charge!

...or Vegas for that matter...you can get a marriage license while you order a Big Mac at McDonald :D :D :D

We're in Minnesota. We had to apply a marriage certificate to get married. We had to wait for a week for the marriage certificate sent to our home. When we married in front of court administrator (in our case) or justice of peace, we had to bring the certificate so that the court administrator could sign on it. Also we had to bring 2 witnesses, they would also have to sign on it. After the civil ceremony, the court administrator said she would sent out the certificate for us. After 1 and half week, we received our certified copy of Marriage certificate in the mail.

We just got married last Saturday (hooray for us!! :) ). In Colorado, you can just walk into the Clerk and Recorder Office, show your ID/Passport, pay $10 and get your Marriage License right there. After we got married, we signed a our Marriage Certificate, which is on the same document as the license. That is the real one. We signed another, preliminary one that we could take with us immediately, while the "real" one is going to be mailed to us in 4 weeks.

The only bad thing now is, that only the "real" one shows and proofs my name change. But I don't want to wait for so long, since I wanted to mail my AOS application this Friday.

I guess I will just send the preliminary one for now. It is official, and I signed with my new last name. The judge said, it should work.
