Marriage Certificate

Hi guys,

I got married to my husband in 1999 in New Delhi but we didn't take the Marriage Certificate that time.
Now I need the marriage certificate for CP interview in Mumbai. I am planning to get a Marriage Certificate from Indian Consulate in New York on Friday. Will that be enough for the interview.

I have asked my parents to get our marriage certificate from delhi but the lawyer is saying its not possible as we didn't get married in court. They can get a marriage certificate without magistrate's signature. That obviously is of no use to us.
Does anybody has any experience with getting the MC from Delhi.

Thanks

Marriage certificate or birth certificate issued by indian consulates in usa is NOT (in bold) an acceptable form of verification of marriage or birth.

Your best bet is to get an official marriage certificate from india. It may be time to get the priest who did your marriage, involved to get the marriage certificate from the proper authorities.

Ash,

you can get marriage certificate from marriage registrar's office any time. All it needs is information from you, your spouse and your priest on the form.

I got my marriage certificate 3 years after my marriage, had no problem, from one of the district marriage registrar's office in Gujarat.

adibazz,

Do we have to present(for signature) to get the marriage certificate from the marriage registrar or my parents can get it.

Thanks

I did it when I was there. But I guess the way our system works one can easily mannage to get it (with some greese ;) ).

Bride and Groom needs to be physically present to get the marriage certificate. This is what happened with 'GCFEELING' less than a month back where the consular officer refused to accept a certififcate given by the priest and hence GCFEELING had to fly back to india, get a marriage certificate so that his spouse could have a successful cp interview.

Here is my suggestion. Plan to go to india a little in advance and go to the marriage court office and get your marriage registered officially. It is typically a one-day job or at most couple of days to get the certificate.

My mom emailed me the form to be filled out to get the Marriage Certificate and it clearly says that both parties have to be present to get the certificate. So we will go early to Delhi and get this sorted out.

Just make sure that everything is arranged for when you go to get your marriage certificate coz theoretically it make take 1-2 days but you know reality. So make your folks aware in india to get in touch with the right marriage certificate authorities in advance to avoid last minute excitement!

Hi Guys

Is any one submitted Affidavit in place of Marriage Certificate. Somewhere here I read, Affidavit from both the parents will suffice the needs. Is that true?

Please advice.

I really doubt it. Some candidates may have carried these kind of affidavits
as secondary evidence to clear small errors in the actual marriage certificate.
