Marriage / Birth Certificate.

INS is asking Marriage and birth Certificate for my wife and birth certficate for my child - we supplied all that.

Any ideas - why ask again ?

I was asked a similar document during my interview ...

.. it was to confirm that you and your wife are still staying together. Good luck.
