Marriage before the naturalization interview

Hello,

My fiance is scheduled for his naturalization interview on April 20, 2009, I would like to get married before the interview rather than the next day after the interview. Anyway it is really late and it might be suspicious, but everything is due to our lawyer who advise us to do the marriage after he becomes a citizen.

I wish I would have found this forum before, I'm really pressed by time since my OPT expires in June 15.

My question is if it's safe to have the marriage before the interview, he is scared that because of that they might reject his citizenship or delay it.

anybody had the same issue?

thank you

Legally it does not make any difference whether you get married before or after the interview. If your fiancee is does not want to get married before interview then wait until after naturalization. It really doe not make any difference is you get married before the interview all your husband will have to do is inform the interviewer that he is now married and N400 needs to updated with that information. If he is uncomfortable with that then just wait until after the interview or oath. There is a 60 day grace period after OPT expires before you go out of status though you can only work until June 15th but you will not be out of status until August 15th.

If you get married before the interview, remind him that he MUST update the interviewer about the marriage, or it could cause problems if they discover the discrepancy during your green card processing.
