I have been reading a lot of postings but i still don't undertsand. Is it against the law to marry before naturalization. I am due for naturalization and do not know if to state married on the application form or unmarried. Would they know that i am married anyways? Or maybe i just don't get it. Would i be declined citizenship because i was unmarried during my green card application and now married during citizenship application. Is there something i need to know? Pls help.

You can get married all you want (well, once -- they do ask about polygamy) before you are naturalized.

If you weren't married when you applied for your green card, and you are married now, put your marital information on the n-400. If you get married after you fill out the n-400, but before the interview, show up to the interview with a new copy of those pages of the n-400 that deal with your new spouse.

Once you get a green card, you can pretty much do whatever a citizen can do (other than claim to be a citizen, vote, or run for office).

The trick when dealing with the n-400 and with the interview is to read (or listen) the question, and they reply completely truthfully to the best of your ability. Don't think so hard :-)

What ever you do, don't lie on the form. Really bad things can happen then (deportation, revocation of citizenship many years afterwards, etc).

...and if you get married after your interview but prior to oath, you simply tell the USCIS officer when he asks his standard questions at registration on the day of the oath ceremony.
