Marriage and GC Process

Hi All,
I was wondering if my impending marriage and addition of my spouse to my GC application will slow the process any?
Also from a timing standpoint when is the best time during the GC process to tie the knot?
My 140/485 were filed concurrently on 7/23/04.
Thanks in advance

Nope, Adding your spouse's name to your 485 application won't slow the process of your application. Your case and her case are independent cases even though your spouse is eligible to apply for 485 because s/he is your spouse.

In fact, I added my spouse's name to my 485 application right away after I got married and few months before my 485 was approved. My spouse's case was approved one year after I added my spouse's name to my 485 application.

You should get married right now because USCIS' goal is to reduce the backlog (responsing to lawyers' lawsuits) and approve cases swiftly. If your spouse is in USA or your home country or your spouse's home country, you should marry at the court and get a marriage certificate and file 485 application for your spouse, then you can have a wedding ceremony/recepition later. Please make sure to take photos of you and your spouse at the court or/and marriage ceremony/reception. That's what my spouse and I did.

Please prepare to collect your spouse's documents including birth certificate and education certificate/degrees if available, your employment letter (primary applicant's employment letter), your paystubs, your tax returns, etc.

Hope this helps.

dude, there is no good time to add dependent in GC.
just do it well before FP1 to be safe. I've seen cases where
485 have been approved in 10 days after FP1. Recently one
of my friends 485 was approved 19 days after FP1.

No. It does not slow.

As soon as possible.

Yes, it may

About me: EB3, NSC ,PD Feb-2001, RD Aug-2002, I-140 approved June 2002, non-concurrent filing, 2nd FP done in May 2004.

Added a family dependent (spouse) one day before INS issued RFE for my I-485. There were no "timing" games - it was just a coincidence. Replied on RFE a couple of weeks later.
It's been 60 days since the reply on the RFE and there is no progress on my case. We have received EAD and AP for the dependent, the 1st FP of the dependent have been processed by FBI (according to the online status).

I don't think this slow is related to adding dependent. They are reveiwed separately. And, as you added dependent later, I don't your 485 and your wife's 485 are even attached together as "family pack". There are many cases where people are waiting for more than 4-5 months after replying RFE.
