Marriage ammendement in Passport ?

HI,
I\'ve received the pk3 forms from NVC. There is a note saying that, the passports should be ammended with the marriage. Does it mean that the last name for wife will change in the passport ?
Does anyone know about this ?

No. It means the marital staus entry

Name does need necessarily need to be changed. This was not an enforced requirement as far as I remeber, unless it is a new requirement from NVC. However, it is good to have. You can get this done at the consulates in US or RPO in India

Hi,

I\'ve called up CGNY to enquire about the ammendement of marriage in the passport. They said they have no idea about this. They can only issue marriage certificate if I want.
But, Pkt3 document clearly says "marriage should be ammended in the passport"

If anyone ammedened the marriage in their passport, can through some details ?

I didn\'t amend the passport

We changed my wife\'s passport ( a new passport was issued) with new middle name. Although we had planned against that, our marriage certificate had her middle name changed so we didn\'t want to take chances.

I didn\'t amend my passport in anyway.

Beware though, that changing name (for wife) will get you a new passport and new passport number. You need to do that before you send Packet3. Otherwise, your packet 3 will have old passport data whereas for interview your wife will have a new one.

Guys,

I went to CGNY and they will update my passport with the marital status as Married and will cost $8 and will be given on the same day. You need your wife\'s passport and marriage certificate for this.
As I applied for PCC so I deposited both of our passport there.

Did your P3 have similar instructions to get your PP ammended to
reflect marriage. Its quite hard for me to go to NYC and get it
ammended.

What would you ppl suggest? I am hoping that the Marriage Certificate should suffice.

Packet 3 not received yet...strange hmmm?

To respond to earlier question in this discussion, I haven\'t received my Packet 3 yet so couldn\'t tell you if it says anything about passport amendment. I got my GC done through AC140. Infact, I keep checking with NVC just out of curiosity. They haven\'t received my file from INS after my I-824 approval in November. luckily, Mumbai accepts AC140 otherwise i would have been quite nervous. don\'t know what they do.

But you can always argue that your wife needs to keep her name because of her career needs (many people have publications in their maiden name and don\'t want to change the name hence). then all you need is passport amendment to reflect marriage. I DID NOT AMEND MY PASSPORT to reflect my marriage BUT THEN I DON\'T KNOW THE P3 REQUIREMENTS.
