Hi:
I called IRS a short while back at 1-800-829-1040 to request tax transcripts for all the years that I had filed taxes (going all the way back from 1994). The lady I spoke to told me that transcripts
were available only for the last THREE Tax years.
Also, it seems that there are other changes.
As of Feb 2004, it seems that the IRS form to request Tax TRANSCRIPTS is form 4506-T. The form to request Tax RETURNS still remains 4506.
Also, per form 4506-T, IRS now provides transcripts having only THREE years of tax data, as opposed to the required FIVE years.
I have very limited experience in tax related info particularly transcripts, and currently have no clue as to how to proceed.
I understand that the INS needs a five year transcript as opposed to a return. The Three year transcripts are free, but a photocopy of each year's return costs $39 plus a potential wait time of 30 days to receive it.
Is it worth going through all this expense, and get copies of the returns as well?
Is there a workaround to obtain FIVE years of tax transcripts, with minimum hassle.
Gurus please advise. Thanks
