Maintain one year residency after naturalization

:) I read earlier that it will be mandatory to maintain residency for one year , after becoming a naturalized (nat.)citizen, in the USA. Is this rule implemented. Of course, for a number of nat. citizens this may not be a problem.

By basic definition, that goes against the very rights of an US citizen - whether he/she is born citizen or naturalized. Could you provide the link where you read?

1 yr rule discontinued...

...i belive it was discontinued in the 1970's or something...now we can zoom out immediately after the oath ceremony and passport...dont forget the PIO card though :)

Actually it was 1790 when there was no concept, green card or LPR status or internet. And it was repealed within 5 years.

what is PIO card for? :)

A PIO card is a "Person of Indian Origin" card. This is issued by the Government of India to overseas citizens of Indian Origin and their children. Sort of like the Green Card, but perhaps with fewer rights etc.

One year residency after naturalization

Dear Joe
Most grateful for giving me the link. I read in this forum under questions and answers and apparently I did not have the complete information. It does make sense, why discriminate between born and naturalized
I greatly enjoy reading this forum. I will soon post my time line once I complete all the formalities
My best wishes to all of those :) who aspire to be US citizens

Reddy,
There is always some discrimination between Natural born and Naturalized citizens. i.e the latter cant run for Pres,VP, denatz is a possibility, must have been a USC 7/9 years to run for the House/Senate etc.

To specifically answer your question, there is NO residency requirement after you Natz. So it it smart to leave for good the next day you take oath ? No.

One year residence after naturalization

Dear Rahul:
I fully agree that at least few weeks should elapse. In any case they are needed for securing the new passport and POIA card
Thanks again and I will soon post my timeline
