Okay, here's my situation.

I turned 18 in july of 06. I came to america in 93 with my mom, i got a 10 year greencard (my mom said that that makes me an LPR). Since we got here, i havn't renewed my GC. Unfortunately it was never a problem untill i decided i wanted to get a job . So just last week i sent in an I-90 form with a check of 255.00 in it. I did delivery confirmation to check when the paperwork got to LA and they recieved it last night. I guess where im getting at is is there any downside to sending in the forms compared to efiling? I hope not, im looking to work asap...i need the money to put myself through college.

Also, on my social security card it says im not valid for work unless authorized by the INS. I think it's because when i came to america i was so young that after the card expired i still wouldn't be old enough to work. I guess im just antsy and i'd like to know. So if you guys could help me i'd really appreciate it.

How long should i be expecting to wait?

Go down to Social Security office immidiatly & have them give you a new card that does not say not valid for work unless authorized by the INS. They will need to see your GC to detrmine your elegibilty. It usually takes an hour or less & few more days to get a new SS card. Along with the GC, you can work. You shouldnt have any problems finding work afterwards unless your GC has expired already. Good luck Son. :)

that's the reason why im filing for a renewal. my GC has been expired since 2003. Hence why i havn't been able to get a new SSC. unless im still allowed to work with a expired GC which doesn't make sense.

thanks father..lol :p

Efiling proved to be much faster than the regular process lately. It takes as little as 2 weeks.

Approximate processing time for mailed in applications is 3 to 6 months, somtimes up to a year or more.

About half of the applicants who efiled their I-90 on September, 2006 already got their applications approved

okay..lemme start by saying it's been a crazy week. I got a certified mail from the UCIS..my heart was jumping. I found out that my I - 90 forms had been returned to me, not because i had made a mistake or anything but because i was 5.00 short on the check i wrote. What a bummer. So i made out another check and i efiled it. Pretty easy, i ended up getting the receipt on the screen and when i went to print out the PDF copy it wouldn't load!!! so i emailed support like they say to do. Hopefully this is speedy. Thanks for all the help guys.

EFILED : Tuesday October , 25th. :)
