Is it legal for an H1B employee to go for a "Leave without Pay (LWOP)" after filing I-485? If it is, what is the reasonable number of months to go on LWOP? Thanks to you all.

Sorry, I do not have any practical knowledge about this!
I can just do some thinking here but I might be wrong.

- Will you be staying abroad during your leave? (If yes, you should not have a problem, since you have to work for your sponsoring employer after you get your GC).
- If you stay in the US, how would you maintain your legal status here if you do not work on your H1-B?
You do not have to work but you have to be in some legal status here.

Anybody any other idea??/
