Dear friends,

Any one recently travelled by Lufthansa Airlines to India (from USA), with valid H1B approval from USCIS and NO VISA Stamping in the passport?

Do I need to take Transit VISA for this? As I am planning to attend for a stamping in India.

Thanks

Get a transit visa

Hello,
I travelled to India in Decemeber to get my H1B Visa stamped in my passport. I took my H1B Approval notice(valid one) and the visa stamping in my passport was expired. I got the tickets to fly from Chicago to Chennai, India by British airways. In Chicago airport they said that even though I have valid H1B Approval notice, I cannot switch my flight in London Heathrow.I should have valid visa stamping in my passport or U.K. transit visa. I argued with them saying that I am not going to leave the airport, just I am going to switch the flight. They said NO. So they rerouted me to go from Chicago to NewDelhi in American Airlines. I lost all my luggages due to this kind of rerouting and suffered a lot with my small kid. I heard from my friends that transit visa is absolutely necessary if you take Lufthansa. Better get that and have safe trip.

Transit Visa

Hi

Yes, you do need to take a transit visa in many European countries that includes, Germany, UK, France etc.

Note that the transit visa is required if your stay in the airport is 6 hours or more, before you connect to the next flight irrespective of the destination (in your case it being India, but the transit visa is required even if there is halt say in Dubai).

The exception is Amsterdam (Schipol Airport) where you do not need a visa irrespective of the length and time of stay at the airport before you get on to the next flight to your destination.

You can always check out the Websites of the airline you are travelling (assuming it is Lufthansa) regarding the visa requirement and always call them at their 800 number for the latest information and updates

Hope this helps, else drop a line in the forum. Good luck on your trip

Thanks for the response.

For British Airlines we NEED a Transit Visa, but for Lufthansa, I heard if we have a valid H1B approval and expired stamping in PP then we don't need.. Any one in this position travelled recently?

Got this pdf from one of the postings in this site..

Please respond..

You are right. I looked at this link, it says you do not need a visa after a legal stay returning to your country. I would recommend you to write a email to the consulate of your area to verify.

Last month, i travelled in Lufthansa from Newark to Chennai. I travelled in expired visa. They didn't ask any question. I called the Lufthansa customer service before the departure, The rep confirmed that, i don't need transit visa.
